Square Enix has announced the end to the open beta in advance of the September 30, 2010 launch. However, preorders of the collector’s edition has begun and grants you not only the usual CE goodies, but also early access to the game starting September 21, 2010.
FFXIV new video, art and end of open beta announced
The FFXIV Core fan site is reporting that the open beta will close at 5p PT on Monday, September 19th, 2010. Beta keys are being given away again on the official site (I just got mine.) Early access for pre-orders is Wednesday, September 22 and official launch is the following Thursday, September 30, 2010. Below is the latest “making of” video for FFXIV from the devs.
PAX 2010: FFXIV interview on community
The FFXIV Core site was able to get a few questions in front of the Square Enix devs at PAX 2010 this weekend. Most of the short interview covers plans for the player site, finding friends from FFXI and why there are no official forums.

Final Fantasy XIV open beta up and running
Now’s your chance to test out Final Fantasy XIV before buying it. The open beta test is up and running, although be warned that the game client’s 14 gig download can take quite a while.
